HMV Abridged The Sorcerer (1933) MP3 Album
78s2CD Catalog No. GS22-4
One of four abridged versions of operas by W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan recorded under the direction of Rupert D'Oyly Carte between 1931 and 1933, and previously reissued together as 78s2CD GS22.
These four abridged sets each consist of six two-sided 78 rpm records. While three of the four operas had been released previously in complete versions, these sets all offer the opportunity to hear D'Oyly Carte Opera cast members in roles otherwise not available on record. The operas included are "The Yeomen of the Guard", "The Gondoliers", "The Pirates of Penzance", and "The Sorcerer".
In order to pool resources and obtain the best possible copies of these recordings, a collaboration was formed with Chris Webster (Sounds-on-CD, UK). As a result, many superb records were made available. Records used in the transfer are from the collections of Dr. Howard S. Friedman and John Hanna. Other records used in the project are from the collections of Marc Lewis, Michael Walters, Jim Craig, Des Wilson, John Wolfson, Chris Webster and James Lockwood.
The digital download contains everything required to produce a CD album, including jewel case inserts in PDF format and CD label graphics.
