We regret that it has been necessary to withdraw virtually the entire 78s2CD catalog and many pre-1972 recordings from Sounds on CD. Although the underlying recordings are in the public domain in most countries, recent court rulings have made it clear that they are not in the public domain in the United States. We cannot knowingly distribute such material without being subject to criminal prosecution in Arizona.

Sounds on CD has licensed a number of recordings from the owners, including the Peter Pratt series of Decca recordings, and is, as far as we know, the only company licensed to sell these in the United States.

We will work with Chris Webster to develop a means of making the remainder of his fine reissues available to the rest of the world from a source outside the US.
