Chris Webster has spared no expense in obtaining the finest source materials available. These range from licensed master tapes and master-based transfers of 78 rpm records to transfers of the finest available copies of commercially sold records. For most of the acoustic recordings and a few of the early electric recordings, the 78s2CD transfers were used as the starting point.

The Sounds on CD issues all feature extremely high-quality inserts featuring original graphics, hard-to-find recording details and notes by highly-respected authorities. Every effort has been made to enhance the sound to maintain maximum brilliance, while keeping noise to the lowest possible levels. Track breaks have been inserted between musical numbers. In cases where the original records contain transitions that are considered unsatisfactory when presented together on a CD, editing has been done to join the sides and achieve continuity.
